If we told you that the women you know and see on the street are the UNEXPECTED result of the traditional stories and folklore that we’ve heard for centuries, would you believe us?

Through our ORIGINS Collection, we explore why each and every woman that lives today is more powerful, more independent and with an unstoppable ambition to shape her own life.

We look inside the stories of the most beloved and feared women, true goddesses from the old Romanian and East European folklore, and we discover their life lessons, as matriarchs of our society.

The reason why the women that shape your world today are like this, is because we are all touched from childhood by these stories, told by our mothers, our grandmothers and our great-great mothers.

We use painted illustrations and jewelry design as visual symbols and maybe spiritual totems, to always carry them with us. We have to!

This Collection is created by me and Ioana Nae, the jewelry designer that forges jewelry in ancient techniques at Enchainted by Ioana Nae (you can find her on Facebook and Instagram). Also, together with her husband, they created Metal Art and Crafts (this is also where you can see all their creations.)

Now let me introduce to you these wonderful ladies:

Known as the Sister of the Sun, Ileana Cosânzeana is seen for centuries by Romanians like the personification of the Moon. She is the most magical, powerful, intelligent and independent woman from old Romanian folklore.

With a winged horse always by her side, that sometimes has 10 pairs of wings, she brings clarity and demystifies for the hero the challenges that he is put through, helping him find his courage to prevail.

From the times when the woman was expected to be docile and „a good girl”, emerges the most unexpected and imposing woman from the legacy of Romanian fairy tales.

The Red King’s Daughter, who through the magic art of transmutation, transforms at will into a majestic Pheonix. She knows the magic of life and death and sees the truth hidden from plain sight.

Woven in the folklore threads of the story of Harap the White, by Ion Creangă a famous XIX century author, she is a legacy that should be celebrated by all modern day women.

This Water Spirit rises from the water to remind us of our role: to stand tall and spread outside the limits of society, so we can share our gifts with everyone who might need them.

It was said that this particular water goddess (pronounced water shteema), lives in all flowing waters and that from time to time she requires a human sacrifice. If she does not receive it, she raises the waters and gets it herself. In the Romanian tradition, women that found their death through drowning can becom such shteemas.

But for me, she represents the unstoppable power of a woman who fights for her own desires and dreams.

Were you told to stay small, that you are too much or that you should keep to yourself? Still, when something is wrong, you can’t shut up?

Then you too are a Sânziana!

In Romanian tradition, Sânziana is a good fairy of the summer, that on her day, 24 of June, blesses the children, the houses, the animals and the crops.

She is one of the best kept pagan celebrations, the only one accepted by Christianity (reclaimed as the day of the Birth of John the Baptist), while keeping the rituals and traditions of the pagan Sânziene.

This is a story lost in the forests and the shadows, caught between life and death. She is the Girl of the Forest.

Both feared and worshiped, her spirit roams the forests of the Carpathian Mountains, seducing and taking the minds of simple men.

For me, she is the reason why the forests always seem so mysterious, wild and provocative, like the spirit and the potential of all women. A constant reminder that we are more then we seem.
